Formentera is as beautiful as ever. Inclosed in this letter I saved quite a few photographs of the sunsets you love so dearly. Please pass them along to mama and papa. How are they doing? Still in love as always I presume. Please pass along my love to both them and the younger De Luca pests. I must admit I miss them dearly. Alessandro must be six months by now. Gabriella will be turning eighteen this August and Giuseppe will be sixteen in September.
Oh how the time has flown since I've seen everyone. Can you believe I've been gone for two years? Two years ago I shed my royal title on this island and lived as a commoner. Although I don't think 'shed' is the correct term. People around here know me as Luca Giovanni, a student from Italy who needed some time away from his loved ones. No, they have no clue the reasons behind the facade. How am I to govern a group of people without learning the woes of those affected by my every decision? I understand these are not 'my' people per-say but I must learn to listen to the voices of others. I know what you must thinking; ‘When is this silly boy going to come home where he belongs and finally take on his responsibility?’ Soon Nonna. I promise I will be there long before things spiral downhill.
How is mother doing? I want the truth Nonna. Her time is limited and I need some sort of gage as to when I must fly home. After the memorial arrangements are set and tributes are made, Gabriella and Giuseppe must accompany me back here. The distance will be good for them. Papa will reign over the country until I graduate or until he sees otherwise. I fear Alessandro will be left to me, a mere child.
I smell change in the wing Nonna. I do not fear the unexpected but something is going on behind closed doors. What is Papa hiding from me? You know I favor you above all else.
